Tis a nice place. So nice it deserves an essay! So, Data kakus is a small (rather big) town about 40 km from the town of Belaga. Dont let the distance fool you as it actually takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes drive from Belaga to the town as most of it is offroad (go figure). The town has no internet nor mobile network connection so be ready for that.

For me at least this whole no network thing is like going back 20 years back where people just have fun without all the internet and you do see that. Kids and teens going out to play sports in the evening and just general gathering between people. Although it is understandable that supplies would be scarce and things are hard to come by but for me and this is only my opinion, that makes it unique. The whole town has its own character, something that is rare in urban areas nowadays. They grow and eat their own rice and it is the best of rice! A truly nice experience.

The people are nice. They are from the Kenyah Badeng tribe and from observations, they are a rather no nonsense people. Very hardworking and very straight to the point, even in conversations. The town is mainly christians so for muslims it might be hard to get food but im pretty sure they are ready to accommodate or you can just buy your own food supplies outside. It's not a tourist location and i hope its stays that way, small visits are fine though. Enough of outside nonsense.
